Psychological Assessments

A psychological assessment at Neuro Psych Health can be the stepping stone to discovering the things holding you back and what you can do to overcome them - leading you to live your full potential.

People often fear the worst when they have been referred for a psychological assessment or if they have been experiencing unexplained symptoms. However, the assessment is not as daunting as it sounds.

What are the uses of a psychological assessment?

Psychological assessments help us understand more about the state of your mental health and well-being, including:

  • To diagnose mental health conditions and determine the severity of the condition.
  • To suggest a treatment plan tailored to the person's needs.
  • To measure progress in someone already undergoing treatment.

The assessment can discover the following:

  • The severity of your symptoms and the underlying causes.
  • Your unique coping mechanisms.
  • Information about the unique perspectives you have about the world around you.
  • Details about your personality characteristics.

The above discoveries will assist in creating a treatment plan designed to fit your unique situation and needs. Treatment options include psychoeducation, individual, couple, or family therapy. Should you need medication or other forms of assistance, referrals to other medical professionals will be facilitated.

What to expect during a psychological assessment

At Neuro Psych Health, the assessment process begins with standard initial forms that everyone completes via our online portal. These forms are designed to gather as much information about your life and some aspects of your family. Additional surveys or questionnaires may be included depending on your specific situation and the symptoms you are experiencing.

Your assessment might also include the following:

  • Cognitive testing to determine your problem-solving abilities and judgement.
  • Your emotional functioning to test for any mood disorders or conditions.
  • A behaviour test to determine your reactions in certain situations.

A psychological assessment is not only crucial for diagnosis but can also be beneficial in terms of personal growth by finding out what your cognitive and behavioural strengths are so that you can learn how to apply these strengths for self-improvement..

How to prepare for your first consultation

  1. Please complete your intake forms honestly and in as much detail as possible. It is helpful to note the nature of your symptoms, whether a particular event triggered them, and what thoughts and behaviours concern you. Keeping a journal in the days or weeks leading up to your appointment can help.
Please note: Incomplete forms and/or questionnaires will delay your process and may result in rescheduling.
  2. Please eat a good meal and use the bathroom before your appointment.
  3. Please take your regularly prescribed medications as scheduled. Avoid optional medications that cause drowsiness, such as painkillers, anti-anxiety, and allergy medications.
  4. Please wear your hearing aids or glasses if applicable.
  5. Please allow extra time for traffic and parking. Your appointment will start promptly at the scheduled time unless there is an emergency or otherwise specified. As far as possible, Aqeela will inform you of any changes accordingly.

Please note: Late arrival may result in rescheduling.
