Your first consultation is 50-60 minutes. A longer consultation of up to 90 minutes can be scheduled if needed.

Therapy sessions for individuals and couples are 50-60 minutes.

Family therapy sessions are 90 minutes.

Neuropsychological assessments can take up to 6 hours, depending on the nature and severity of the impairment and the individual’s processing time.

Aqeela Mahomed also offers free initial 15-minute phone or video call screenings to determine your needs and assess whether you would benefit from her approaches. .

Preparing for your session with Aqeela can help make the process much smoother, as well as benefit your time in therapy.

  • Ensure that you complete all the necessary intake forms honestly and in as much detail as possible.
  • Note the nature of your symptoms, what triggers them, and the thoughts or behaviours concerning you. Keeping a journal in the days or weeks leading up to your appointment can help.
  • Eat a good meal and use the bathroom before your appointment. 
  • Take your regularly prescribed medications as scheduled, and inform Aqeela of these medications prior to your appointment.
  • Avoid taking mind-altering medications or those that cause drowsiness and any stimulants.
  • Please wear your hearing aids or glasses if applicable.
  • Allow extra time for traffic and parking. Your appointment will start promptly at the scheduled time unless there is an emergency or otherwise specified. As far as possible, Aqeela will inform you of any changes accordingly.

Please note: Incomplete forms and/or questionnaires will delay your process and may result in rescheduling. Late arrival may also result in rescheduling.

Yes! We are affiliated with several major medical aids and will claim directly from your medical aid for you. If we are not affiliated with your medical aid, you will receive an invoice at the end of your session to claim from your medical aid. Please ensure you check that your medical aid will cover the cost of your sessions prior to booking an appointment.

Please note:If your medical aid rejects your claim, we do not refund payment for consultations/ sessions and will not liaise with medical aids on the reasons for rejection. We strongly advise you to first check if your medical aid will cover your sessions and what your savings provision can be used for.
